Purchase & validation

Follow the route-specific instructions above. A paper ticket may need stamping, an app ticket may need activation, and a contactless journey may require both entry and exit taps. These are different systems: do not assume one rule applies everywhere.

Use official machines, counters or the operator’s app. Keep the ticket or payment device until you have left the final station. A payment receipt is not always the travel ticket.

Children, luggage & city passes

Before buying, enter every child’s exact age and check whether an infant needs a reserved seat. Resident or school concessions may not apply to visitors. Confirm luggage and pushchair rules with the airport-service operator.

Do not assume a 24-, 48- or 72-hour city pass includes the airport, a premium express service or a regional onward journey. Check the named operator, zones and airport supplements first.

A door-to-door arrival.

Taxi & private transfer

Use the taxi rank in front of arrivals; confirm the fare before departing. App pickups follow the location displayed in the app.

Expected cost

Around €15 to the centre, the tourism board’s indicative estimate; actual fare can vary.

Before confirming your car

  • Give your flight number and ask how delayed arrivals are handled.
  • Confirm whether the price is per vehicle or per passenger.
  • Request the right child seat and enough space for luggage.
  • Ask about waiting charges, tolls and cancellation terms.
  • For an app booking, match the driver and number plate and use its marked pickup zone.

App availability and airport pickup rules vary. Use the airport’s named providers; a ride available in the city may not be authorised to collect at every terminal.

Make the flight home feel easy.

Work backwards from check-in

Start with your airline’s required airport arrival time. Add the full ground journey, walking between terminals, waiting time and a buffer for disruption. For a route with changes, check the first local departure as well as the airport service.

An early flight may leave before public transport starts. Compare a pre-booked taxi, an earlier coach or an airport-area overnight stay.

Use a dated journey planner

Select the actual date, direction and terminal. Check weekday, weekend and holiday schedules, the last service and any replacement buses. A scheduled time is not necessarily a live prediction.
